GOING UP HILL OR GOING DOWN HILL
Today the earth has already done 7 more circling rounds around the sun, and it keeps doing her job better than many of us do; good old planet earth, the only one who could host the human beings. Never complaining or asking for a salary rise, or health benefits.
Our planet is a kind one to keep up with us, the way we treat her.
The Christmas trees after having been used as decoration all over the places inside, and outside the houses, they have no meaning any more, and they have to be disposed of. Cremation of burial (Recycling). In Wenduine choose for cremation, and they make a show out of it with fire works and a lot of drinking and singing. Thank you trees, you deserved better than to burn in ....I was saying hell, but it was the beach of Wenduine, a dark misty night.

At about 18:30 ( it is dark at 18::00 hours in this time of the year, the fire was set by the firemen (should they not kill the fire instead of starting it?)

flames went higher and red.

And the fireman were having a lot of fun, dancing around.

The amazing with the fire work and the burning is the lack of safety. The fire was practically fired next to me and exploded just up our heads.
With the high amount of Jenever (kind of Gin) and beer is amazing that are no casualties at all.

It is funny to see all this people at the beach on a cold misty winter night. They don't seem to care: let's the beer flow and the music play.
i went home and slept well all night.
The morning of the 6 was sunny and nice, there was a little mist but no wind.
I wend to the beach to see the ruin of the previous night but it was nice and clean. Amazing.
It was so nice on the beach that I started walking to De Haan, about 2.7 miles (5 km) I couldn't see Oostende , covered by fog, but De Haan was vaguely visible, and was like a mirage in the desert calling me, so I started walking along the sea.
At about half way the city of De Haan started playing games; instead of approaching it kept moving away. The faster I walked, the quicker she moved back.
I had the intention to get the tramway to get back home, but when I reached De Haan, the sun was looking at me like reproaching me something, and that is why I decided to go back the same way, viathe beach, on foot.
Horses were doing it, people on bicycles were doing it; why should me not walk on foot? Later I would be sorry, but I did it. Walk all the way and back. 10 km.On the beach, crossing many strams of sea water getting back to mother the sea after having fun on the beach, like children running to mama. i felt like Moses crossing the red sea, wet feet and cold.

Some fishers were half drowning trying to get the nets full of , probably, sand, and some tiny shrimps; what men will not do for being away from the wives ....oops.

The sun decide to shine more bright like showing the mist to the door ....the mist just vanished for a little while.

It was a nice walk, and now is raining again, a tiny drizzle rain.

Sounds like a lovely walk. I can imagine that walking 10k would leave you a little sore later on.
The tree-burning festival must have been a lot of fun.
Here, in my state of Nebraska...Trees are shredded, for mulch, or fertilizer. Some people have trees up, and decorated even before Thanksgiving here, and those are the ones who take their trees down the day after Christmas.....
My husband likes having a Christmas tree, so I settle for a small artificial tree, with lights, and angelic ornaments.....It goes up a few days before Christmas, and down a day or two after.....
a walk on the beach is better than a ride on a tram any day, the photo's are amazing too....but...did Moses's feet get wet?
When I was little, we used to live on the South-Texas coast. After Christmas, the city collected Christmas trees and then halfway-buried them on the beach to act as windbreaks and collect sand to make sand dunes on the beach. Burning sounds WAY more fun, though.
In the last picture, is that ice or foam?
@TutelageOfTheMundane - It is foam. Not even freezing yet this year.
around here, they grind them up for mulch - I kinda like your way better! - lol You certainly have a beautiful place to live! peace, Al
I enjoy walking on the beach. That's a beautiful picture of the horses. It would make a great painting.
Our Christmas tree is still up. After I take it down I will put it on the patio and put food for the birds on it. Later we'll probably tie something heavy on it and put it in the lake (the fish will like it.)Sounds like it was a good weekend. Most major areas around here have some sort of Christmas tree recycling in place by now … turning them into compost or groundcover, and so forth. A community bonfire sounds like a lot more fun, but they would never allow such reckless behavior!
Poor trees. Reminds me of animals that are raised only to be eaten.
@titus_bigglesworth - You're right' A short life and in the end no paradise but the flames of hell. Not fair!
@TutelageOfTheMundane - It is more fun indeed, but also a lot more polluting! Lots of discussions about that.
@ata_grandma - I never thought Christmas trees could be drown. seems a good solution, at least for the fish.
@Roadkill_Spatula - Actually I felt good after. walking on sand imust be good for the legs and for the rest.
@mlbncsga - I bet he did have wet feet sometimes while crossing the red sea.
@ellie1945 - It is amazing how many different rituals about the Christmas tree....and they are all great.
@pukemeister - In a mot of places do the same in Belgium, but hier is a touristic resort and they do anything to attract people ,mostly at weekends.
@carlo - I know just what you mean!
@pukemeister - I mean ' in a lot of places.' My eyes are getting worse and the typing letters are so small....
@carlo - that's what I figured - I know all about those damn shrinking letters!
The city here does the same as Neil says: recycle them in shredders to make compost or ground coverings for trees or flower beds.
10 km is a long way to walk. I don't think I ever walked such a distance, or if I did, I don't remember.
.
@Banyuls - If I am not wrong, you use the bike to move around, and you do a llot more than 10 km with the bike (bicicletta).
''A perfect post with exquisite photographs and narrative to remind Anne of all she is missing in exercise. Soon, she will catch up with you, and be able to enjoy the views you have presented. I Agree, the trees should not be used to celebrate Christmas, and then to see their short lives ended this way, is saddens.
The horse seems to be stepping high in shear happiness over his exercise.
AMEN''
There is always something to watch at Wenduine beach . Northen people love the fire and light at night to change with the cold , the mist and the dark
10 km foot! Impossible for me I broke a big toe with a huge log that fell trght on my foot on December 21 . I have a break and a wound badly located around the nail that needed to go to emergency room. Since them I stay inside. I CAN ONLY WEAR SLIPPINGS ? I CANNOT DRIVE NOr WALK OUTSIDE ; IT IS SLOW to heal . Paradoxally I do not suffer excepted when I touch the toe.;
Amitiés à toi
