HMS BOUNTY SANK BY SANDY
Last year, the 31 of may we had the HMS paying a visit to Oostende. No doubt we had to go, and we had a great time in visiting this beautiful ship.
It was not the original of course, but it was a well made replica made to be used in films, like Pirates of the Caribbeans.

She was born (launched)in august 27th of the year 1960 and she died (sank) the 29 October 2012.
The storm called Sandy hit her with great strength and there was no rescue for the boat. She capsized and sank. Luckily an incredible rescue was done to save the crew.
The captain is missing and another crew member is also missing but the other 14 crew people have been saved.

Of course I had to have a crew sweater of the Bounty. The strange story is that a couple of days ago, I decided to wash it and I didn't dare to put it on the washing machine, and I washed it by hand. Incredible the amount of water it absorbs, it felt like hundred kilos. It is not dry yet.
I feel kind of sad to wear it now. There is no more crew of the HMS Bounty.

Interesting. I hadn't heard about that. Very sad about the missing crew members.
How very sad that the ship sank while trying to avoid the storm!
Sounds like your sweatshirt took on as much water as the ship! That's tacky, but I had to say it. I do hope everyone gets rescued.
probably one of the more irreplaceable losses to Sandy of many - especially the loss of life. Not sure if she ever made it to one of our local tall ships events but ships like that are amazing. peace, Al
That was a shock. I'm glad you got to see the ship and have the sweater as a remembrance.
The water was super cold and some of the Bounty members had cold weather suits on to save them from being in the water. The raft also saved some lives but I think two folks washed overboard.
There was a mayday call put out when the boat began to take in water. They had an airplane spot the ship and a helicopter also helped in the rescue.
They did the most they could do when they knew the storm was coming. Did the Bounty lose power? Could the ship not have sunk? We will soon find out the details I suppose. Will you write an aftermath story?
Wearing this sweater is a homage to this wonderful boat and its captain.and also Mrs Christian ( I followed your link )
Very sad news striking you more yet since you visited the boat recently in Ostende .
Last Monday we were in the area of Boulogne/Marquise to visit the family graves . We xere drenched .by a, unceasing and violent rain.
Amitiés

''Carlo, The ship has had quite a history, and I Am glad you and Anne had the chance to visit her before she went to her end at the bottom of the sea. A fitting ending, considering her crew were saved. We have left a Message on Our site for you.
AMEN''
@PPhilip - Who knows? a new story of how the replica of the Bounty came to her end.
@pukemeister - I'm waiting to see more news how did this happen.
@TutelageOfTheMundane - It is not dry yet.
@slmret - It is a sad thing and not necessary.destiny?
RYC : I found a logic : the dark image of my back was given by the electronic camera directly on the screen of the monitor and the impression of white background ( the beach) was a virtual image given by reflection on the glass of the screen of the light coming from the window . There was an interference between the two sorts of images !
J ' avoue que cela faisait étrange . C ' était halloween hier!
@carlo - yeah, there really wasn't much said about that - you'd have thought they'd have had time to get into a port somewhere out of harms way
I was in shock when I'd heard. My heart and thoughts go out to the families of the lost crew.
The crew is staying quiet on some issues and maybe the body of the captain will be found. ( http://www.examiner.com/article/hms-bounty-sinks-during-sandy-relief-fund-set-up )
So very sad isn't it. Such a loss. Your crew sweater will be doubly precious to you now. Nice of you to wear it as a tribute to the lost lives.
